Mabel is Eliza's mother, and along with her daughter, aided in getting Virgil to freedom. When Hiram went against his word to Eliza, Mabel turned on him pointing a shotgun in his face. In MABF06 - The Colour Yellow, She assisted Virgil to the Canadian border, where as they journeyed together, they grew closer and eventually married. Virgil took her last name as he had none of his own, when she divorced Hiram, she got one of his shoes he had gotten for squealing Virgil's location to Colonel Burns. Virgil and Mabel had two children, their son, Abraham, is the kids's is Great-Great-Great Grandfather making Virgil their true ancestor. (though one of those kids could simply have been Eliza)
