Plot Smithers wakes up one morning is a strong hangover. He recalls the events leading up to Mr. Burns' shooting outside Town Hall, and concludes that while drunk he shot Mr. Burns. Smithers confesses to a priest however, it's a police trap and he is arrested. Smithers is let go when Sideshow Mel proves that Smithers is innocent. Lisa provides the police with several suspects, but when the police search the suit Burns was wearing it provides Simpson DNA and Burns regains consciousness, he utters Homer's name prompting his arrest. The wagon carrying Homer over turns and he escapes, he heads into the hospital to confront Burns. The Town is after Homer for $500,000 and Lisa is after him too to reveal the truth. However, Burns now recovered speaks the truth that it was Maggie who shot him when the gun fell into her hands and discharged.
