Plot At School, Bart has not attempted his assignments, which he had three months to work on. Mrs. Krabappel writes a letter to Homer and Marge. Homer eager that he does not have to help Bart with his work makes sure that he does it, while Marge is worried that Bart may be dissuaded from school and accomplishing something.

Bart realises that he could use this to work in his favour and have Homer and Marge challenge each other. Both Homer and Marge worry that arguing over Bart so much can endanger their marriage and decide to let him fend for himself.

When Bart catches on, he and Milhouse cause a prank on Principal Skinner and they hide in an abandoned subway. There on the train, they cause a seismic level tremor under the town. Homer and Marge fail to take notice.

Bart confesses to Nelson that he no longer feels any thrill when causing a prank. Bart decides to destroy Springfield Elementary by causing another tremor. Lisa leaves a note for Homer and Marge to find revealing everything, they decide to stop ignoring Bart and rush to the station to shut down the train before it can destroy Springfield.

Bart is grounded and it is discovered that it was Bart himself that wrote the note due to a spelling error, Lisa agrees not to tell Homer and Marge about it.
